A bit of a scare

We decided to run Claire to the ER on Sunday evening as she was running a fever of 102.5' at home. She had developed a fever Sunday afternoon and seemed out of sorts while we had dinner with some friends at home. We gave her some children's Tylenol and she seemed to get her energy and spunk back but was still running warm. Pete checked her before coming to bed and we made the decision to take her in since her temp had risen since earlier in the eve.

They couldn't find anything and chalked it up to a virus she is fighting off. Three-plus hours later we finally returned home with no answers, other than her ears and lungs are clear. Oh. And she weighed in at 18.5 lbs.

She continues to have a higher temp but is eating well and still running around. She's just a bit more clingy and has a bit of short fuse. Hopefully she will be able to kick this in the next day or two.

New photos and phone vids to come. Hopefully in the next day or two!

She no longer needs us

To stand up on her own, that is.

The last two days Claire has been working on being able to stand and walk from the middle of the room, sans chair, table and/or parent. She's got it down now, and there is no stopping her from here on out. She just loves to walk. Back and forth. After the cat. It's amazing that a mere 20 days ago we posted that she was taking her first tentative steps and now she is moving through the house like a pro.

We've been working on getting up the stairs, which she does pretty well. Getting down is another story. This whole turning around on her belly thing just doesn't work for her. Even when you try showing her how it is done (which is hard to do as an adult) she resists going down in any way that is safe. So, mom gets frustrated and just picks her up and carries her down. Bad, bad mama.

Claire also likes to pick up books and 'read' to mom and dad. 90% of the time the books are upside down but apparently our nightly habit of reading before going to bed is paying off, she gets what books are for and is 'reading' to us already.

From here to there and everywhere

Ms. C is walking like a mad woman. She wants to walk everywhere. And really likes to pick things up and walk with them (Ernie, books, rings, her lovey). Last night she started to be able to stand from sitting and walk without having to use a chair, parent or table to get up.

Sitting? What's that?

Mom and dad have an early walker. Jordan was an early walker so we should have known Ms. Claire would follow in her sister's footsteps, so to speak.

Now Claire wants nothing more than to walk, walk, walk, walk, walk. She's made it roughly 8 feet or so and had a great time practicing at Jackie's on Sunday. Since Jackie's living room is free of coffee table dangers it was nice to let her 'run free'. And that she did, back and forth, developing an unusual interest in a button on a chair. Funny kid.

She still looks a bit like Frankenstein (as dad referred to her this morning) or a drunken sailor, but she is getting the hang of it. And if a table or chair isn't nearby, mom and/or dads legs will do just fine, thank you.

And she's off!

11 steps last night.

Claire has been slowly making her way to walking more without support from mom or dad. She will walk only holding onto one hand and can make it around the living room quite well while using furniture for support.

But last night she just walked right across part of the living room. Dad counted 11 steps and mom grabbed Jordan's video camera to try and catch the action. Unfortunately, she doesn't know how to pull it off the camera to post.

Pretty amazing!

New images

Lexi and Claire spend some time trying to get at each other's toys.

This is what Claire looks like when she presses her face on the deck door.

A single step/shuffle

The other night (she's been teething lately so time is a bit of a blur) Claire kinda, sorta took a couple of steps without any support. She was standing on her own, as is her norm, and looked like she was ready to take off, so dad asked her to come on over, and she tried. But after a couple of steps she stopped. We don't think she really realized what she was even doing.

It was cool to see, but somewhat scary at the same time. We've been pretty lucky that she hasn't been getting into things under the sink and haven't put the locks on the cabinets. Looks like that is going to be a must do this week (since last weeks post referred to the same thing!).
